What kind of cable can I use with my Ethernet-based data acquisition system?

Question :

What kind of cable can I use with my Ethernet-based data acquisition system?

Answer :

Several types of Ethernet cabling are available, and the type you select will depend on the bandwidth that is required of the data stream to be transmitted. The cable is also dependent on the type of network installed. Ethernet 10Base-T cabling can be used for data throughput up to 10Mbps. A 10Base-T network uses 4-wire, twisted-pair, or fiber-optic cabling and a hubbing network topology. This permits many Ethernet based DA systems to be cabled together to a central hub. Ethernet 10Base-2 also operates at 10 Mbps but uses coaxial cabling and does not feature hubbing technology. Other Ethernet cabling options, such as 100Base-TX provide data speeds up to100 Mbps.
