What error or event checking is available for most Tektronix oscilloscopes?

Question :

What error or event checking is available for most Tektronix oscilloscopes?

Answer :

If the status becomes non-zero (gets set) to an ESR? query that means either an error occurred or an event occurred.  Errors might be from a command error (usually bad syntax in the command string), an execution error (hardware problem, wrong scope configuration, etc), a device error (firmware or diagnostic problem), a query error (when the controller tries to read an answer from the scope) or an internal warning (like an overload).  An event might be that the power failed, the power came on, an operation completed, or a front-panel button was pressed.  Errors and events are both reported in the same way and read back from the scope over the GPIB.  There are commands to just read the error number, to read each error number along with a description, or to read all the numbers and descriptions at once.
