Temperature: Can the 7702 be used for measuring temperature with thermocouples?

Question :

Temperature: Can the 7702 be used for measuring temperature with thermocouples?

Answer :

Yes. Although the 7702 does not have automatic cold junction compensation (CJC), there are still three ways to measure temperatures with thermocouples with this module:
  • By using the simulated CJC reference. This can be valuable when only the relative temperature rise is of interest, rather than the absolute temperature.
  • By using an external CJC reference placed inside the module. This can be accomplished with an RTD or thermistor connected to channel #1. All T/Cs are then compensated for against this reference.
  • By using an external CJC placed in a thermocouple 'patch panel.' This method is similar to the above description.
