Tektronix Extends Benefits of Real-Time Spectrum Analysis to TD-SCDMA Standard

Tektronix Extends Benefits of Real-Time Spectrum Analysis to TD-SCDMA Standard

One Button Automated Testing Simplifies Task for Design Engineers

BEAVERTON, Ore., October 26, 2004 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, today announced additional support for China's Time Division - Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) through software options for its WCA200A (Wireless Communication Analyzer). The new software enables designers of TD-SCDMA devices to realize the unique benefits of Real-Time Spectrum Analysis through standardized, automated one-button tests using the measurement methods and limits found in the TD-SCDMA standard.

Time Division Synchronous CDMA (TD-SCDMA) was developed by the China Academy of Telecommunications Technology (CATT) in collaboration with Datang and Siemens and proposed as a standard by the China Wireless Telecommunication Standards group (CWTS). TD-SCDMA was approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and has been incorporated by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) within the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Release Phase 4.

The design challenge of integrating more complex components into small 3G mobile devices requires powerful test instruments that provide unique insight, enabling designers to quickly solve their toughest development problems. Tektronix' WCA200A Wireless Communication Analyzers combine real-time spectrum analysis, vector signal analysis and spectrum analysis to accommodate development of 3G components, network and end-user equipment. The WCA200A Series is able to do this by providing a unique combination of Real-Time Spectrum Analysis with high performance and flexible modulation analysis. The unique triggering, seamless capture and advanced time correlated multi domain analysis capabilities of the WCA200A greatly simplify the process of characterizing and troubleshooting a TD-SCDMA device.

"The TD-SCDMA standard is emerging to be one of the most important in the industry, said Rick King, Vice President, Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer Product Line, Tektronix, Inc. "Tektronix is demonstrating its commitment to China and the greater 3G community by developing this software to meet the unique requirements of TD-SCDMA. With the new TD-SCDMA software, the WCA200A is the only spectrum analyzer capable of seamlessly capturing all changes in the TD-SCDMA signal during call setup procedure or handover process. This should greatly assist engineers who design and test TD-SCDMA components and systems."

"Time correlated, multi-domain views of RF information greatly improve the troubleshooting tasks of engineers developing the TD-SCDMA standard," said Mr. Zhang Xing Sheng, General Manager of System Test Department of Datang Mobile. "Tektronix' proven record in China and their commitment to TD-SCDMA increases our confidence that this new product will ease development of network devices. The Tektronix WCA200A Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers should prove an ideal assistant to engineers tasked with the design and implementation of TD-SCDMA components."

About TD-SCDMA

TD-SCDMA is a third-generation (3G) technology that enables operators to increase both the number of users and the data throughput in next-generation mobile communications networks. It is the first Chinese standard accepted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
